Social media is a powerful tool for generating sales. It works to establish your brand, builds trust with prospects before they buy, and amplifies your content to drive traffic to your website, all of which are critical for inbound sales. For B2B, if you’re not on LinkedIn and Twitter at the minimum, you’re missing out. And Facebook is hands down the lifeblood of B2C social. But no matter which platform your audience prefers, these strategies will help you drive more business to your organization.

Bio images matter:

When using your personal social platforms for business, include a headshot that exudes professionalism – not one from last year’s ugly sweater contest! If you’re representing a brand on social, the logo should be used everywhere to become recognizable and establish consistency with your audience.

Bio description matters too:

Every social media account has dedicated areas to include personal or business information. Some platforms (Twitter) have limited space and other platforms (LinkedIn and Facebook) have much more space. Use it wisely and be sure to check that every available area is filled in. Then put a reminder in your calendar for every 3 – 6 months to check that the information is still relevant and tweak as needed.

Engage and connect:

People might want to be more selective about the connections they make but for a business, the wider the net you cast on social, the better. And when it comes to gaining traction on social media remember that the platforms have a common goal. They must have users actually engage or they can’t make money from ad revenue. Therefore, social media algorithms are geared at sharing more of your content depending on how much and how often you’re engaging on the platforms. And engaging doesn’t mean auto-re-tweeting or acting like a bot. Think: comments, starting conversations, making observations and being… well… you know… SOCIAL!

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words:

Attention is the currency on social and to get it, you need still images, gifs, and video in order to stand out in a sea of posts. Imagery also ensures the posts you create will be enticing enough to share, which is exactly the engagement metrics you need to gain the reach on social that you’re hoping for.

Listening on social media:

Use hastags as keywords to find relevant conversations to join on social media. Also look at your competitors’ accounts to gain information on what type of content they post. Is it getting attention? Are they involved in conversations? If so, what kind? Now, take that information and use it drill down into what makes you or your organization different or formulate topic ideas for blogs and other content.

Whether social media is considered a waste of time or the next great moneymaker depends on how you use it, how often you engage and how much your audience resonates with you content.
