There’s probably too many variables to count: the industry in question, office leadership, the interpersonal relationships between team members, and so on. But there is one thing that most of the workplaces in the “well-oiled machine” category do share in common: they all have a universally compliant office.
What’s that? A universally compliant office is a workspace where everything works together in harmony. That is, the electronics and office equipment—people are a bit more challenging to get to work together in harmony, although we have some advice on the blog for that too.
In today’s post, we’ll take a look at the Xerox approach to universal compliance, why it makes your job easier, and how to start implementing it so that you too can have your workplace become a “well-oiled machine.”
What is Universal Compliance?
In a nutshell, “universal compliance” is a fancy term that essentially just means “everything works together.” So, for example, it might mean that if you have more than one Xerox multifunction printer, both (or all three, or five, or two dozen) of those printers behave the same way and have the same settings, including interface, user access, ConnectKey apps, and so on.
To make entire fleets of printers universally compliant, Xerox has many tools available for businesses and organizations, such as the Xerox Clone feature or the Fleet Orchestrator platform, which we discuss at length in our post How to Configure Multiple AltaLink MFPs With Fleet Orchestrator.
Universal compliance also means that staff can access and use the printer regardless of what kind of device or operating system they’re using—all while still maintaining security. This is especially important for offices that have remote workers, either temporarily during business trips or as a permanent fixture of their virtual staff.

What makes a Xerox multifunction printer truly multifunctional goes beyond its basic capabilities of printing, copying, scanning, and faxing (although modern Xerox technology does those things very well). A lot of the power is a result of how you can customize your equipment through the Xerox App Gallery, as explained in our post Getting to Know the Xerox App Gallery.
Security features should also be a major consideration of your universal compliance strategy. If even just one of your MFPs is insecure, that can put the entire network at risk. The good news is that using tools like the Xerox Clone feature or the Fleet Orchestrator software means that once you’ve configured one machine, those instructions can be sent to all other machines on the network. So if you wanted to set up, say, Xerox Secure Print on all devices, this is something that could be accomplished with minimal IT intervention.
