The purpose of the Xerox Smart Start installer software is to help you get a brand new Xerox MFP up and running as quickly as possible—and with minimal user input.
The software runs on one of your networked Windows computers. On that same network, any newly-added printers will be automatically discovered. All you have to do at that point is select the printer to auto-configure and the software will take care of the rest, including driver installation for the computer Smart Start is running on.
One Caveat: Make Sure Your Print Architecture is Supported
A lot of businesses are still using Windows 7. You’ve probably heard this already, so we apologize for piling on—but allow us to urge you to upgrade! Microsoft has ended Windows 7 support as of 2020, so for security purposes alone upgrading is a very good idea indeed.
The other reason it’s a good idea to update is because Windows 7 doesn’t support Microsoft type 4 print architecture systems. While the Xerox Smart Start installer software supports both type 3 and type 4 architectures, it’s still strongly recommended to update your systems.
