There used to be a time not so long ago that being confronted with a fault code from your office printer was a major headache—seeing one made every team manager groan, because there was a good chance that it was a harbinger of lost productivity.
Here’s the good news: these days, modern office equipment isn’t just made to be longer-lasting and more robust; it’s also easier than ever to diagnose (and resolve!) problems, at least if you’re working with equipment from an industry leader like Xerox.
In today’s post on the Smart Document Solutions blog, we’re going to take a closer look at fault codes, how to get them resolved as quickly as possible, and some of your options if you don’t want to have to deal with print IT at all.
Let’s begin:
What is a Fault Code, and Why is My Xerox Multifunction Printer Showing One?
A fault code is essentially an error code. It’s a quick way for your printer to let you know that something went wrong—and it’s not necessarily always something catastrophic. Many fault codes are minor-but-important problems that require user intervention.
In many cases, fault codes can actually be extremely helpful and ultimately save you time since without them, you might not have even known something was wrong until you were alerted to it in some other way.
For example, some models of Xerox multifunction printers will give you an error code if you try to fax a completely blank document—presumably you want to fax a document with something on it, so the fault code is there to give you the chance to check that, say, the document wasn’t accidentally reversed.
Other common fault codes might indicate that the printer has run out of hard disk space (rare these days thanks to large internal disks and cloud storage, but it’s still possible), the paper size is wrong for the current task, or that an email wasn’t able to be sent from the printer due to a SMTP server configuration error.
How to Diagnose Xerox Fault Codes Quickly and Accurately
The easiest way to diagnose a Xerox MFP fault code is to make a note of the code and, using your mobile device or computer, accessing the official Xerox Support page.
The really nice thing about the Xerox support page is that you can simply search for what you need all from a central location—whether you’re looking for fault codes, drivers, or general troubleshooting help, you can do it all from the one prominently displayed search bar.
Once you’ve found your fault code description, the page will include instructions on what you need to do next to resolve the error.
