While those two articles should give you a great primer on the platform—more can be learned on the official Xerox Workflow Central website—we wanted to publish one more blog post about Workflow Central which covers what many users consider to be its most powerful feature: combination workflows.
What Are Combination Workflows in Xerox Workflow Central?
Combination workflows are arguably the “cornerstone” feature of Workflow Central. In a nutshell, this feature allows users to pass a document through multiple tools in the platform. The tools used can be predetermined by the user, making repeat combination workflows fast and easy for tasks which are repeated often.
Workflow Central comes with a series of tools, each impressive on their own. For example, users can convert handwritten notes into editable digital documents, convert documents into audio files (a surprisingly human-sounding text-to-speech engine will read the document), translate documents from one language into dozens of others, and more. The ability to combine these workflows and pass a document through multiple tools really opens up a lot of possibilities.

Xerox Workflow Central’s combination workflow feature empowers users to process documents in the ways that will be the most useful to them or their colleagues. A great example might take the following form: imagine that your organization is having an important meeting. You attend the meeting and take a few sheets of handwritten notes. A week later, you need to review the notes you took before meeting with an important client, but you have to drive through rush hour traffic to get to their location—you can’t do both at once!
Or can you? With a handy combination workflow in Xerox Workflow Central, you scan your handwritten notes and convert them to a digital document. The combination workflow then passes that digital document through the audio converter tool. You send the read-out-loud audio version of your previously written notes to your phone and listen to them in the car while you drive to the meeting with your client.
This is a small but powerful example of how combination workflows can be incredibly useful in real-world scenarios.
