It’s already time for major operating system upgrades again.
Microsoft’s Windows 11 is in full swing, and Apple recently released Monterey 12 for macOS. Generally speaking, upgrades are a good thing—security and performance upgrades are always welcome—but as you may know from times past, sometimes support for third party hardware can take a little while to catch up.
The good news is that for Xerox users, things are looking pretty good this time around.
Most of the Time, Driver Upgrades Will Be Available and Easily Installed…
With the new operating system upgrades, Windows 11 and macOS Monterey 12, users generally have two options: to install the new operating system “fresh”, meaning a complete install onto an unused disk, or to upgrade their currently existing operating system.
If you’re upgrading an already existing operating system, such as Windows 10, the upgrade process will do most of the heavy lifting for you and little to no user intervention will be necessary.
However, a completely fresh install of the new operating system may require you to manually install drivers for your Xerox device. If that’s the case, or if you performed the upgrade and something isn’t working, you can always visit the official Xerox Support and Drivers page to get the latest drivers for your operating system.
Note the key word there is official—always download drivers from trusted sources (in this case, only the official Xerox website).
When looking up your model, you’ll find a list of available drivers. If the website indicates that no driver is available for your printer, it’s either because it isn’t ready yet (unlikely at the time of this writing for Windows 11 or Monterey 12) or the device is too old to have new drivers prepared for it; Xerox supports devices for a very long time, so it would have to be an old device indeed for this to be the case.

If drivers are unavailable or not working, the next logical step is to avoid using drivers entirely—which is possible with Xerox technology thanks to cloud printing.
While there are many ways to achieve “driverless” printing, here’s an example: if you’re using an Apple device, look into using AirPrint. If you’re on a Microsoft machine, you can use Universal Print through Microsoft 365.
